Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Reynaldo Coronado-Piedra, 33, a citizen of Mexico found in the custody of the Portage County Sheriff’s Department, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to 15 months in prison for illegally reentering the United States. Coronado-Piedra pleaded guilty to this charge on April 26, 2012.

Coronado-Piedra was first removed from the United States on November 19, 2004, following a probation revocation stemming from a 2000 Texas conviction for possessing cocaine. Coronado-Piedra returned to the United States without permission and was convicted in Texas in 2006 of possessing marijuana. He was again removed from the United States on January 10, 2008, upon completion of his sentence. Coronado-Piedra returned to the United States without permission a second time and on September 8, 2009, was convicted in Portage County of possessing marijuana with intent to deliver.

The charge against Coronado-Piedra was the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Leah Fillbach Lenzendorf.
